Check the goods before choosing freight

Record the item type, selected variant, quantity and original listing date. Check Australian Border Force information about online imports, prohibited or restricted goods and any permit requirements relevant to your purchase. A product being offered overseas does not establish that it meets Australian requirements.

Label AUD and CNY costs explicitly

Keep the seller’s CNY price and domestic-delivery cost next to your actual AUD payment, exchange date and payment fee. Do not mix an unlabelled dollar estimate with an AUD receipt. Record packing, insurance if purchased and international freight separately, preserving both the initial estimate and the paid parcel charge.

Use the parcel’s packed measurements

For a bulky item, changing the dimensions can matter as much as changing the scale weight; use the estimator’s own result rather than inventing a tariff formula.

Record GST and border charges at the right stage

ABF’s buying-online guidance explains that low-value goods and goods requiring an Import Declaration are handled differently, and some goods have special rules. Check the current guidance and keep any GST collected at purchase separate from an assessed border charge or carrier service fee. Do not describe every low-value purchase as tax-free.

Compare QC with fit and condition requirements

Use warehouse QC images to check the ordered colour, variant and quantity. For clothing, record the relevant measurements; for an item with a condition concern, keep a photo and a dated decision. Your spreadsheet should show whether the issue is unresolved, accepted or being returned before you include it in a parcel.
